L’appliqué

Une technique que l’on peut retrouver à peut près partout. Qui peut avoir un aspect différent suivant les pays et cultures. Connu sous différents noms comme par exemple le Baltimore qui a été fort populaire de 1820 à 1840 dans la ville du même nom aux USA. Tellement réputé qu’ils en ont même édité des catalogues, appelé les bibles du Baltimore, dans lesquels ont peut trouver un grand nombres des dessins édités à l’époque. Ils sont précieusement gardés dans ma bibliothèque. J’en ai un en-cours, « Jardin de fruits rouges » pour Mr H. Mais pas encore prêt d’être fini … Ces premiers blocs sont en parties issues de ces bibles et d’autres que j’ai dessiné

Leurs noms changent en fonction de leur origine et graphisme, bien souvent en fonction des cultures, religions et croyances, empreintes de symboles.

On pourrait en nommer encore bien d’autres. Pour moi, d’un point de vue technique, il y en a deux bien différentes : l’appliqué traditionnel, avec l’ourlet rentré et l’appliqué collé, avec un double face thermocollant et rebrodé afin de tenir les pièces sur le tissu de fond. Deux techniques qui peuvent être pratiquées également de diverses façons selon les écoles, professeurs, main ou machine… Mais le résultat vous donnera toujours un rendu de l’une de ces deux techniques. Le quilt

Pour celles qui réalisent le quilt débutante de l’Atelier à distance, votre prochaine étape est de réaliser deux blocs d’appliqué. Un en appliqué collé, bloc 5, et le second en appliqué traditionnel, bloc 6.

For those who perform the Beginner quilt of the Remote Workshop, your next step is to make two blocks of appliqué. One in glued appliqué, block 5, and the second in traditional appliqué, block 6.

Lorsque je fais des blocs en appliqué, j’ajoute une marge de couture de 2 cm tout autour. Cette technique à tendance à rétrécir le tissu selon la façon dont on travaille, propre à chaque « main ». Une fois le bloc fini, je le remets à la bonne mesure + marges de couture habituelles.

When I make blocks in appliqué, I add a margin of seam of 2 cm all around. This technique tends to shrink the fabric according to how one works, specific to each « hand ». Once the block is finished, I put it back to the right measure + usual sewing margins.
